I didn't do the deed today. I am kind of a pansy when it comes to this I guess. I tried to get my neighbor to do it so maybe he'll be over tomorrow. I have the bird in a cat cage and have locked up my girls for the past few days. I hope that the little contact the birds did have together (if any) didn't sicken my girls.

we have 2 americanas, 1 barred rock, one RIR, and an ISA Brown. My ISA has been laying for a month, and just today we got two other eggs from I think the Barred Rock and RIR. We will be rolling in eggs soon. Not literally of course.

I heard about a chicken group on yahoo that is for Michiganders. have you heard of it? I may try to join in the next couple days. I'll send a link if you are interested.

    Christian.

Hey. I don't gever over there often... in fact maybe I've never been to south haven. But I used to live in holland and drive by there often. We have 5 birds. 4 different species. It's our first try really. We live in the city. There are quite a few of our neighbors who have or have had chickens, but it's kind of underground. I think that's kind of how I got into this situation. Somebody was not taking care of their basement chickens and this one was the last to survive so they just wanted to get rid of it.

I think tomorrow I need to just put it out of it's misery. I don't have the means to quarantine in a healthy way for the chicken and don't really have the time to do special things for it. Sorry if that sounds harsh. I have 3 jobs and 2 kids under three. my wife is prego with #3 due any day now. If you think there is something else I should do, let me know.

We bought our chickens this spring from a feed store north of grand rapids. I doubt it's the cheapest, but it's the closest. We haven't vaccinated. I hope my girlies don't get sick. I'll be pissed.

    hey

you dont have that one chicken that you told me about in with your other chickens do you. if you do i think you are screwed, considering god only knows what it has. congrats on your new baby when it is born. being that busy im surprised that you even have any chickens, i mean damn guy do you ever sleep. the vacc inations i was reffering to was mereks and newcastle, the other vacc it seems you cant give them if they are laying hens. but on the issue of the other chicken, yes put that poor thing to sleep, it would end its suffering if it does have something, cause you dont know that if it has something that can be transmitted to you your family or your girls. thats why i am hoping that you dont have that one chicken in with the rest. and its people like the one who has this poor chicken that really piss me off. my girls are extreamly spoiled and they know it and i watch everything that they get since they are penned up at all times. with the exception of mosquitoes and moths. many people i have found that they give thiers slugs, which is very bad cause they carry the parasite known as gapeworms. which kills the poor chicken etc. same thing with people who use garden dust (sevin) to dust thier chickens for mites etc. the only thing i use is insectrin dust which i buy and its for chickens, horses and swine etc. its the only thing safe enough to kill mites, fleas, ticks etc. sorry this is so long. what breeds of chickens do you have. right now i have 3 buff orps and in the spring im getting 2 easter eggers. cant wait to hear from you.

    hey there!

im in the south haven area, do you come to south haven at all. so far i think you are the closest one to me. couple of questions for ya, how many chickens do you have and are your chickens vacc. my 3 chickens are strickly pets and noone these days believe in simple vaccines for thier birds, why i have no idea. i have 3 buff orpingtons and planning on getting 2 easter eggers in the spring. im thinking if you do have chickens that you get them at townline hatchery also. i usually go to piers feed in holland for feed and chicks. cause right now the feed there is cheap. for example i got 150# of laying mash for $30. cheap i think. im still getting used to this board myself. and i am on the other byc board too. cant wait to hear from you.image
